Is Your Steel Drum Packaging Ready for the EU's BPA Deadline?

As regulatory requirements continue to evolve across global markets, particularly regarding Bisphenol A (BPA), a chemical associated with health concerns, Tri-Sure remains committed to staying ahead of industry changes and delivering innovative solutions that help our customers navigate compliance challenges with confidence.

One of the most significant developments impacting the packaging industry today is the increasing regulatory focus on Bisphenol A (BPA) in Europe. Commission Regulation (EU) 2024/3190 introduces new requirements regarding BPA in food contact materials. The regulation entered into force on January 20, 2025, and establishes an 18-month transition period ending in July 2026.

That transition window is now well underway, and the time to act is before the deadline, not after.

At Tri-Sure, anticipating market needs and regulatory trends has always been part of our commitment to customers. Rather than reacting to regulatory changes, we strive to lead the industry by developing solutions that help our customers prepare for the future.

For decades, Tri-Sure has been at the forefront of lining technology development for metal packaging components, pioneering solutions such as RDL44 and RDL50, which have become trusted technologies across the industry. This legacy of innovation continues with the introduction of RDL100FA, our latest BPA-NI (Bisphenol A non-intent) internal lining technology.

In addition, Tri-Sure offers RDL101FA, which is essentially identical to RDL100FA, differing only by the absence of pigment. As a result, RDL101FA falls under the same regulatory framework and provides customers with an additional BPA free* solution to support compliance with evolving European requirements.

Developed to support customers preparing for the implementation of the EU BPA Restriction, RDL100FA provides a practical solution for companies exporting steel drums to the European market. By combining regulatory readiness with proven performance, RDL100FA helps customers address evolving market requirements while maintaining the reliability and quality expected from Tri-Sure products.

As a global supplier, Tri-Sure is fully prepared to support worldwide demand for advanced lining technologies. Our manufacturing capabilities, technical expertise, and global commercial network enable us to provide consistent supply and dedicated support wherever our customers operate.

The introduction of RDL100FA reflects Tri-Sure’s ongoing commitment to innovation, customer partnership, and regulatory preparedness. By developing solutions ahead of key regulatory deadlines, we help customers reduce risk, maintain market access, and position their businesses for long-term success.

Preparing for the July 2026 Deadline

With the transition period already underway, Tri-Sure encourages customers to begin planning and validation activities as early as possible. Key actions may include:

  • Initiate testing and validation of Tri-Sure's RDL100FA to ensure compatibility with your application.
  • Review your current packaging specifications and requirements.
  • Complete all necessary validation, qualification, and change management processes well in advance of the July 2026 deadline.

Our commercial and technical teams are ready to support customers throughout this process by providing product information, technical guidance, and application expertise.

We remain committed to ensuring a smooth transition and are available to support you with any technical or regulatory questions. In addition, we continue to closely monitor regulatory developments and implementation timelines to help customers stay informed and prepared.

At Tri-Sure, innovation means more than meeting today’s requirements, it means helping customers anticipate tomorrow’s challenges. With RDL100FA and RDL101FA, we continue to deliver solutions that support compliance, performance, and business continuity in an evolving regulatory environment.
